Leith, Ontario 1887-1900

Thomas John Thomson was born on August 5th 1877, in Claremont, Ontario, a small town north east of Toronto. His family moved a few months later to ‘Rosehill’, a farm in Leith that looked over the waters of Owen Sound. His childhood days were spent with his eight brothers and sisters fishing, sailing, swimming, reading, dancing and playing mandolin and coronet in the village band. A favourite pastime was drawing caricatures for the amusement of his friends.

Young Fisherman, circa 1905

"I can see him as a small boy with a strong of fish caught in the creek where he would clean and smoke in a piece of stove pipe, and I still remember how delicious they were."
